One of the most basic components of environmental sustainability is recycling. Countries from all over the world have been sending their plastic and other recyclables to China. China virtually shifted the world’s recyclables process overnight when they put now stringent standards in place. How will this affect the United States recycling programs?
- The industry standard for contamination typically ranges between 1 percent and 5 percent. Under the new policy, China’s standard is 0.5 percent.
- Columbia County in New York exhausted its annual recycling budget over the summer.
- Small-town recycling programs already are more expensive than those in bigger cities. Can they afford to keep recycling?
At Cady Reporting, we implement a sustainability program here at our office. We are also part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s GIC (Green Initiative Committee) where we help law firms and other companies become sustainably compliant with our environmental standards.
